Film Training Manitoba (FTM) is honoured to announce the election of three new board members from our AGM, which was held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
“All of our team at Film Training Manitoba are pleased to welcome three Manitoba film industry veterans to our board of directors. We deeply appreciate Kalyn Bomback, Tamara Roshka and Charles Konowal’s willingness to serve. FTM also wishes to thank Carrie Wilkins, John B. Lowe and Luther Alexander for their many years of service. FTM looks forward to continuing to connect with them all in the future.” Said FTM’s Executive Director Adam Smoluk.
Kalyn Bomback, Tamara Roshka, and Charles Konowal were all unanimously elected to directorships on FTM’s Board of Directors.
Tamara Roshka is a second-generation Indo-Canadian multidisciplinary artist and cinematographer based in Winnipeg. Her career spans both documentary and union film productions, blending a sharp eye for composition with strong technical expertise. Her documentary work honed her adaptability in dynamic environments, while her time on union productions gave her efficiency and experience on larger-scale sets. Passionate about advocacy and education, Tamara champions gender equity in the film industry and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of creators.
Charles Konowal is an award-winning filmmaker with over 40 years of experience, specializing in cinematography. He has also directed and produced over 20 documentaries and music videos, including the NFB’s first Peabody award-winning feature documentary, “Fat Chance.” He has also worked for the IMAX Corporation and photographed network documentaries in the US, Canada, and the UK. Since 1989, Charles has been producing, directing, and shooting documentaries through his own company Kono Films Ltd.
Kalyn Bomback has been an active and passionate member of Manitoba’s film industry for nearly 30 years. As a long-time ACTRA member and advocate, she currently serves as Vice-President of ACTRA MB and chairs both the Training Committee and the Women’s Committee. Kalyn is also a practicing litigation lawyer, having been called to the Manitoba Bar in 2010. In addition to her legal and union leadership, Kalyn is a trained actor and emerging film producer, with a deep commitment to mentorship, gender equity and workforce development in the screen sector.
In addition, film industry veteran Ellen Rutter has been elected Chairperson, and Red River College (RRC) Polytechnic’s Director of Business Development, Jill Latchislaw, has been elected Vice Chairperson.
