SUMMARY:Intro to Final Draft & Movie Magic
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nDate: January 17, 2026 (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM)Location: FTM Training Space (245 McDermot Ave, 2nd floor)*Registrations are now closed!\n\n\n\nAbout the Workshop:\n\n\n\nThis course will serve as an introduction to the basics of both programs as well as the specific techniques of each. You will learn the essential formatting, terminology, and pros and cons of these commonly used screenwriting programs.\n\n\n\nOne of the most critical tasks while working in the Production Office is to review newly revised pages promptly for both cast and crew. Once the writer or director has approved the pages, it is necessary for the designated person in the office to ensure that the page numbers match the currently approved draft and to release new pages to the necessary individuals in the proper colour order.\n\n\n\nThis tutorial will provide a comprehensive guide on the two programs most commonly used on film productions: Final Draft and Movie Magic Screenwriter.\n\n\n\nThese programs have been fluidly designed to assist and provide simplicity in the creation of a finished screenplay for the budding writer, but there are crucial built-in functions and shortcuts that you will need to issue revised pages with ease.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor:\n\n\n\nAaron Graham is a full member of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) and serves on the executive of the DGC Manitoba’s district council. He has served as a Production Coordinator and Assistant Production Coordinator on such Winnipeg-based productions as “Midnight Sun,” “Breakthrough,” “The Parts You Lose,” and “Burden of Truth” seasons 1 and 2.\n\n\n\nAaron also has an extensive background in freelance film writing, including in Screen Magazine and Art Decades. A partial list of his interview subjects includes: Terry Gilliam, John Landis, James Gray, Richard Franklin, Charles B. Griffith, Stuart Gordon and Richard Linklater.\n\n\n\nGraham was also selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancellation PolicyParticipants must cancel up to 4 full business days prior to the course start date to receive an 80% refund. No refund will be given to participants who cancel within 4 full business days before the course start date, or if they do not attend the course.\n\n\n\nFilm Training Manitoba reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course where a minimum registration level has not been met. Participants registered for a course that is canceled will receive a full refund.\n
