Supporting Women in Film Trades (SWIFT) is a Manitoba Sector Council workforce development initiative presented by Film Training Manitoba (FTM).
Launched by FTM and wide collection of partners in 2021, Canada’s first SWIFT Conference was held to promote jobs and careers in film. The SWIFT conference is the first conference created to support women workers in the Film Industry. Supporting sector council organizations of the first SWIFT Conference included the Manitoba Construction Sector Council, New Media Manitoba, On Screen Manitoba, Creative Manitoba and the Manitoba Tourism Sector Council.
FTM’s SWIFT committee of 15 women film professionals designed the conference and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the SWIFT 2022 conference sold out and garnered over thirty different partners and eighty-five conference participants. The first SWIFT conference included a special accredited course from Western University.
With the success of the SWIFT conference, the FTM began hosting customized SWIFT workshops like the Women’s Camera Lab, a Hair and Make-up Course, and a Post-Production course with Farpoint Films.
The SWIFT 2023 Conference is taking place November 25 & 26, 2023 and will feature seven panel sessions with over forty women professionals, distinguished three in-person speakers including an international renown keynote speaker. Full programming of the SWIFT 2023 conference details will be revealed at Frank Digital’s Studio in September 2023.
