This comprehensive course provides clarity and an expert approach to styling and maintaining textured hair in a fast-paced film environment. This workshop bridges artistic expression and technical continuity, giving participants the knowledge to style and care for textured hair on set confidently.
Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your on-set skills, this course is for you!
Below is a breakdown of what participants can expect to learn:
Module 1: Anatomy & Foundations
· Understanding Texture Patterns: Classification of waves, curls, coils and kinky coiled hair
· The Science of Texture: How hair reacts to environment and chemicals.
· Scalp Health & Prep: Essential pre-styling treatments for various textured hair types to ensure a clean, hydrated foundation.
Module 2: Tools & Product Technology
· Texture-Specific Toolkit: Mastering the use of diffusers, wide-tooth combs, picks, etc.
· Product Layering: Strategic application of leave-in conditioners, creams, gels, and oils to define texture without excessive buildup that causes “film glare”.
· Heat Safety: Proper temperature control for silk presses, diffusing, and setting to prevent heat damage during long production schedules.
Module 3: On-Set Dynamics & Continuity
· The Continuity: Creating detailed logs including products, drying times, technique, specific placement of hair, elements like “edges” or baby hairs.
· Lighting Interactions: Understanding how different textures absorb or reflect light; working with the Director of Photography (DP) to ensure hair isn’t lost in shadows or over-exposed.
· Rapid Styling: Techniques for quick, seamless touch-ups between takes to maintain the look under studio lights.
Module 4: Advanced Styling & Finishing
· Wigs & Extensions: Proper application, blending, and securing of extensions on textured hair to withstand physical action or long shoot days.
· Period-Specific Texture: Recreating historical and era-appropriate textured looks while maintaining structural integrity.
Near the end of the course, participants will learn hands-on and watch Maegan in action through the following demonstrations:
