The centre culturel franco-manitobain (CCFM) and Film Training Manitoba (FTM) are set to partner for a unique cultural offering during the reception of the upcoming Canada’s Supporting Women in Film Trades (SWIFT) Conference on November 25 & 26, 2023.
Canada’s SWIFT Conference is the first of its kind national event for women-identifying and gender-diverse workers in the film and media industry. The event’s lead organizer is FTM and features thirty total partner organizations, including the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Warner Brother Canada’s Access Program and IATSE 856. Canada’s SWIFT sold out in late October 2023 and will feature over 40 women speakers and panellists; it will take place at Red River College Polytechnic’s Manitou a bi Bii daziigae in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District.
Canada’s SWIFT in-person keynote speaker is former Governor-General of Canada Michaëlle Jean who will talk about women’s important role in media. This session will also feature accomplished Franco-Manitobain filmmaker Danielle Sturk as a moderator. During the reception, the CCFM has programmed two franco-manitobain-based performers to share their talents with the attendees.
“FTM is grateful that Manitoba has an excellent organization like CCFM that shares our Province’s important French culture at Canada’s SWIFT.” Said FTM’s Chairperson Andrew Yankiwski. He added, “CCFM’s critical support will help welcome former Governor General of Canada Michaelle Jean, her husband filmmaker Jean-Daniel Lafond, as well as all of our participants and supporters.”
