In this immersive course, you’ll dive into scenes you’d typically audition for or step into the shoes of characters you’ve longed to bring to life. You’ll learn the art of making subtle yet impactful adjustments through improv techniques, ensuring you become at ease with scripts and characters. But that’s not all—prepare for a dynamic twist.
On day two, the participants will switch instructors for a fresh perspective, and experience an intensified feedback session. About the Instructors:
Lauren Cochrane
Lauren Cochrane is a graduate of the Comedy: Writing and Performance Program at Humber College in Toronto. She also had the privilege of studying improv at the esteemed iO (Improv Olympic) in Chicago. Now calling Winnipeg home, Lauren has had the opportunity to be part of its bustling film industry, most notably the IFC horror ‘Hunter Hunter’ and Netflix’s ‘Fractured’. She’s also very excited about her role in the upcoming ‘Deaner 89’, set to debut in 2024. She is also one half of the comedy duo Bucko alongside her husband and collaborator, Aaron Merke. Having been humbly nominated four times for the Actra MB Award, Lauren cherishes every learning experience and is very excited about this partnership with Film Training Manitoba and ACTRA, Lauren looks forward to sharing her journey, offering an improv workshop for budding actors, focusing on auditions and on-camera nuances.
Adam Merke
Aaron Merke is an Actor and comedian, known for his work in improv and film, will be conducting a workshop on improv for auditioning actors and on-camera techniques. Trained by the iconic Del Close at IO in Chicago, Aaron’s journey in comedy took him to notable stints at Second City Toronto and roles in prominent Much Music shows. His cinematic contributions have earned him an ACTRA award, highlighting his profound impact in the film domain. Beyond acting, Aaron’s self-taught expertise in makeup FX, inspired by greats Comedians and monster makers further showcases his versatility. Now partnering with Film Training Manitoba and ACTRA, Aaron aims to empower budding artists with the tools and techniques to shine on screen.
Cancellation Policy:
Participants must cancel up to 4 full business days prior to the course start date to receive an 80% refund. No refund will be given to participants who cancel within 4 full business days before the course start date, or if they do not attend the course.
Film Training Manitoba reserves the right to cancel, or postpone, any course where a minimum registration level has not been met. Participants registered for a course that is canceled will receive a full refund.
FTM is a non-for-profit charity and member of the Province of Manitoba’s sector council program (through the Department of Economic Development and Jobs). FTM conducts workforce development and training to build a highly skilled and adaptable film industry to support the activities of Manitoba production companies. FTM collaborates with members of the film and television industry to identify the training needs within the community.
