Kultivation Festival FAMD (Food, Art, Music, Dance) is a not-for-profit organization devoted to celebrating and promoting the modern cultural scene in Manitoba’s Filipino/a/x community.
About the workshop
In recent years, Film Training Manitoba has been partnering with various cultural organizations and this special partnership with the Kultivation Festival is to designed to ensure more members of Manitoba’s Filipino community undertake film related learning and skills development.
During this training session, Joanne Roberts will provide in-depth learning on how the participants can develop and create a short form film. Joanne will provide tips on how the participants can heighten the project’s story for the cinematic medium.
The group will discuss their short filmmaking goals for the session, learn about short-form structure breakdowns, and work collaboratively in groups. Joanne will also provide tips on navigating various challenges the participant may encounter when making their film.
There will be an open Q & A at the end of the session.
About the Instructor:
CityNews Reporter Joanne Roberts is a Filipina-Canadian reporter for Citytv. She recently released three episodes of Citytv’s prime-time specials, CityNews Connect.
Also an accomplished filmmaker, Joanne won Gimli International Film Festival’s Emerging Filmmaker’s Pitch Competition in 2020 for her biographical short film titled “Anak”.
She has since produced the award-winning, 4-part series exploring Filipino culture called “I Am” with CBC’s Creator Network.
FTM is a non-for-profit charity and member of the Province of Manitoba’s Sector Council program funded through the Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources. FTM builds a highly skilled and adaptable film industry workforce to support the activities of Manitoba production companies. FTM collaborates and partners with members of the film industry to identify training needs to support workforce development.
