Manitoba Film Master Series Instructor Rory Kennedy’s Docuseries Synanon Fix Premiering on April 1

The instructor of Film Training Manitoba’s recently held Film Master Series, Rory Kennedy‘s upcoming four-part docuseries, The Synanon Fix is set for release on HBO.

The series is an HBO Original four-part documentary and will debut on Monday, April 1 from 9 to 10 p.m. ET/PT, and will be available to stream on HBO Max, with new episodes debuting subsequent Mondays at the same times.

The project premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in late January 2024 and examines Synanon which amassed over 1,000 followers and features archival footage.

Synanon was founded in Santa Monica, California in the 1950s by Charles “Chuck” Dederich. Dederich aimed to create a program similar to Alcoholics Anonymous that helped people with drug addictions.

Kennedy’s film covers the organization’s origins, and its devolving into a wild and dangerous cult. The project features a wide collection of interviews with over a dozen former members, including Dederich’s daughter.

Kennedy is a two-time Oscar nominee, and she created the film with her husband Mark Bailey who also served as the series’ co-writer and producer.
